Serra dos Órgãos Mountain Range

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Serra dos Órgãos National Park was created in 1939 to protect the exceptional landscape and the biodiversity of the mountains of Rio de Janeiro State, allowing recreational activities in contact with nature and eco-tourism. It was named due to it resemblence with organ pipes from European churches. Serra dos Órgãos is formed by many mountains above 2.000 m, with great vertical walls, greenish and deep valleys, waterfalls and great rivers. It is also known by the biodiversity richness that its protect there, and the difficult access make it one of the last pristine areas in Rio de Janeiro State. These moutain range is the place where I started to do my first bushwalks and scientific observations. I hope the pictures below can demonstrate why my passion for nature has its roots in this breathtaking mountain range.
