Pico das Almas and National park area

Chapada Diamantina, BA​

Pico das Almas is one of the highest peaks in Northeast Brazil, and lies in the Chapada Diamantina region at the northern end of the Serra do Espinhaço. It hosts a spectacular and varied vegetation, which includes extensive areas of Campos Rupestres (high-altitude grasslands) and Cerrado (savannas), rich in new and endemic species. Located just within the Almas and Barbado moutain range, this moutains were fomous throughout the world after the publicatiion of the monumental book “Flora of the Picos das Almas, Chapada Diamantina, Bahia – Brazil”, organized by the researcher B.L. Stannard, from Kew Botanic Garden. I always wonder know this place, and two years ago I finally could reach this goal. The aim of this field trip was exclusively photograph the biodiversity and the breathtaking landscapes, and, why not, prospect some areas for further floristic inventories!
